Next it compares the apocryphal Acts with the Pastoral epistles (especially 1 Timothy) in an attempt to illuminate the agenda of the former (nostalgia for a past that actually existed but is now under threat). Finally it considers the history of women in African Independent Churches in Southern Africa in light of the apocryphal Acts to empower women in Southern Africa and elsewhere to claim their his/herstory against gender discrimination in the church and society.--C.R.M.
