The Late Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Forgiveness and Reconciliation in South Africa: An ATW Bibliography

21 Janvier 2022

In keeping with its primary aim of serving as the foremost platform where issues relating to African Theology could be shared to a much wider audience, African Theology Worldwide has assembled a 248-item bibliography on the theme of forgiveness and reconciliation in South Africa.

The bibliography is unique because it considers the role of the Late Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu in not only helping South Africa to deal with its apartheid past but working with aggrieved communities to forgive and reconcile with each other after years of violence, mistrust and pain. In exercising his role at chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Archbishop Tutu offered South Africa and the world a theological interpretation of Ubuntu. Mindful of the need for aggrieved communities to heal and reconcile after years of apartheid, Tutu proposed a method of reconciliation that both apprehends Christian theological and traditional African communal values in its proceedings.
