AbstractThere is only one known manuscript that contains Mark 16:1-8 plus this shorter (additional) ending alone, namely, Codex Bobiensis. This codex is one of the Old Latin manuscripts and is referred to in the critical apparatus of the Greek New Testament with the letter k. It dates to the fourth or fifth century. It continues from v. 8 to this additional ending without a break or any textcritical indication of separation or difference in origin. In order to prepare for the additional ending, this manuscript omits the Latin equivalent of the words “and they said nothing to anyone” (<em>καὶ οὐδενὶ</em>)

AbstractIrenaeus, who wrote around 180 CE, does not explicitly say that Mark was written in Rome, but he seems to assume it. Near the beginning of the third book of his work <em>Against Heresies</em>, he mentions the activity of Peter and Paul in Rome, preaching and laying the foundations of the church. Then he says, “After their departure [that is, their deaths], Mark, the disciple and interpreter of Peter, did also hand down to us in writing what had been proclaimed by Peter” (3.1.1).¹ The description of Mark as the disciple and interpreter of Peter is close to what Papias
