Description
Since its foundation, the Global Digital Library on Theology and Ecumenisim, also known as GlobeTheoLib, and the GlobeTheoLib Consortium that supported it, has been serving theological higher education institutions, associations and libraries worldwide.
The Global Digital Library on Theology and Ecumenism, was launched in 2011, as a joint project with the World Council of Churches, to provide and enhance online access to theological knowledge and resources for theological education and research. Although the project came to an end in December 2018, the library resources and the community on theology and ecumenism contiunues.
As of January 2019, the GlobeTheoLib Consortium has been formally integrated into the Globethics.net Consortium on Ethics in Higher Education. The result of this union is a better synergy adding benefits for all members such as additional resources, publications, online courses, networking and joint research projects.
The World Council of Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the Anglican Communion and the Association for Theological Education in East Asia, GlobeTheoLib Consortium Members since the beginning, have opted to join the Globethics.net Consortium as members and to contribute to the project.
Globethics.net remains committed to maintaining and enlarging not only the library resources on theology and ecumenism but also the network of theological libraries, organisations and educational institutions while continuing to provide specialised services to former GlobeTheoLib members and others, including the development of special online collections and publications focused on theology and ecumenism.
The Globethics.net Library currently holds more than 4,0 million documents on theology and ecumenism, including special collections on ecumenical, intercultural and contextual theologies, theological education, world Christianity, and interreligious studies. It regularly receives updates of the Index Theologicus , the International Bibliography of Theology and Religious Studies, produced and provided for free through a cooperation with the University Library of Tübingen.
