SATS Conference 2027: Call for Papers

11 August 2026

Theme: Towards Christlikeness: Theology and Praxis in Pastoral Care and Christian Counselling

Location: Online

Date: 24–26 February 2027

Announcement

This e-conference investigates the theology and praxis of Christlike formation. It seeks to integrate biblical and theological understandings of transformation with practical expressions in pastoral care and Christian counselling, encouraging deeper reflection on how theology informs, sustains, and embodies the process of becoming like Christ. Conference presenters are required to articulate a biblically grounded theology of Christlikeness. Speakers are invited to engage with themes such as: (1) How the formative journey shapes and sustains discipleship and pastoral identity. (2) The integration of spiritual formation, theology, and counselling praxis in ministry contexts. (3) The dialogue on how care, community, and counselling contribute to Christlike transformation in the African context.

All submissions will be reviewed by a Selection Committee. The decision of the Selection Committee is final, and the Committee is not obligated to provide any explanation for their ruling. Papers presented can be submitted for consideration for publication in Conspectus, the journal of the South African Theological Seminary.

The conference will also feature selected student papers in parallel sessions. These sessions will showcase emerging researchers at Master’s and Doctoral levels. Post-graduate students are therefore encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration.

Submission Deadline: 25 September 2026

Abstracts should be submitted through the online form.
